Many locals specializing in pottery, woodworking and crafts and choose to showcase their works at places like the Okeechobee Arts & Culture Alliance, the Highlands Arts League and the Heartland Cultural Alliance. Residents can also stroll through Lake Placid — which has been hailed as the “Town of Murals” for its showcasing of almost fifty outdoor works of art.

A rich history runs throughout South Central Florida, and it’s out on full display. Interested in vintage switchboard equipment or historic dining cars? The Depot Museum in Avon Park is full of interesting tidbits. The Clewiston Museum provides a way to explore everything from the early Native American Seminole and Miccosukee settlements to the remnant galleons and treasures of the early Spanish explorers. Museums also showcase a range of artifacts — from vintage farm equipment to historic photographs to memorabilia from Florida’s early settlers.

Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival is one of the most popular draws in the region, taking place annually in March and featuring a lineup of musical acts, interactive arts & crafts and other activities. The Sebring Arts & Crafts Festival is held every November and Caladium Festival in Lake Placid in July, featuring hundreds of vendors selling their works. And if you’re interested in theater, the Glades County Season of Fine Arts series is a must-see with a variety of performances including classical music, ballet and more.
